about H-ONE makerspaceMakespaces are sites where artists, tinkerers, programmers, and hackers get together to create, invent, and learn using common tools. Sewing machines, saws, 3D printers, and computers are tools that can be used for a variety of different creative and learning purposes across disciplines. The cross-disciplinary nature of makerspaces stimulates student communication, creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration. Sonoma County is an important player in the makerspace movement; Make Magazine (with founder Dale Dougherty) is based in Sebastopol, and many local schools are collaborating to build a Maker learning community.
Casa has begun acquiring tools and creating the space. We have an ambitious plan to encourage learning and shape a facility that the entire Casa community can use and be proud of. Three new classes will use H-ONE in 2015: two sections of 3D Make, and Mouse Squad. We are interested in community expertise, or offers of hardware and materials that can be donated to the school.
